EPA Announcement: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has commenced the cleanup of radium-contaminated soil at the former Silbert Watch Co. site in Elgin, Illinois.
Location: 1409 Dundee Ave., Elgin, Illinois.
Cleanup Process:
- Fencing installation
- Shrubbery clearance
- Soil sampling
- Removal of contaminated soil
- Backfilling with clean soil
- Dust monitoring
The EPA plans to remove 10-15 truckloads of contaminated soil to a licensed facility and conclude the cleanup by early summer, weather permitting.
