Starting May 7, 2025, flyers in the United States will need a Real ID to board domestic flights. After several delays, the Transportation Security Administration will enforce the Real ID Act, initially proposed in 2005. To check if you’re prepared, look for a star, flag, or the word “Enhanced” on your ID or driver’s license. The Department of Homeland Security emphasizes obtaining a Real ID-compliant card or using a passport for domestic flights. All travelers over 18 are required to comply to maintain air travel security.
