Study Suggests Underreported Mifepristone Side Effects By Conservative Group

Apr 30, 2025 | Health, Politics, Science

Mifepristone, a widely used drug for medication abortions, may have more serious side effects than reported by federal sources. The Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC), a conservative nonprofit, conducted a study using insurance claims over six years indicating that nearly 11% of women experienced complications like hemorrhaging, sepsis, or infections within 45 days. EPPC’s data came from various insurance providers, excluding cash and self-insured transactions, potentially affecting actual adverse effect rates. Since FDA approval in 2000, over 5 million U.S. women have used mifepristone.
