U.S. Treasury Sanctions KNA: The U.S. Treasury’s OFAC has designated the Karen National Army (KNA) and its leader Saw Chit Thu, plus his sons, as transnational criminals.
- The KNA, based on the Thai-Burmese border, is linked to cyber scams, human trafficking, and smuggling.
- American victims have lost billions due to these scams.
- Treasury aims to disrupt such networks under Executive Order 13581.
“We are committed to holding these criminals accountable,” stated Deputy Secretary Michael Faulkender.
