FDA Targets Children’s Fluoride Drugs for Market Removal

May 14, 2025 | Government, Health, Science

The U.S. FDA is taking action to remove concentrated ingestible fluoride drugs for kids from the market. These drugs, in tablets and lozenges, are meant to prevent cavities but are linked to health risks like reduced IQ and thyroid issues. Scientific evidence favors topical fluoride benefits over ingestion. FDA Commissioner Makary emphasizes safe alternatives like reducing sugar and promoting dental hygiene. The FDA plans to complete a safety review by Oct. 31 and the Department of Health and Human Services will release best practices for dental hygiene.
