A 4-year-old girl from West Texas was hospitalized with pneumonia following a measles infection. She spent over four days in Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock. Unlike a 6-year-old who died two days earlier from similar complications without any treatment, this child received budesonide, a steroid for airway inflammation.
- The Health and Human Services Secretary promoted the use of this treatment.
After receiving budesonide, she was able to go home just 36 hours later.
