The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a significant restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and addressing chronic illnesses. Key components of the plan include:

  • Workforce Reduction: Decreasing staff by 10,000 positions to save $1.8 billion annually.
  • Division Consolidation: Merging 28 divisions into 15, including the creation of the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA).
  • Centralization of Functions: Streamlining Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, External Affairs, and Policy.
  • Regional Office Reduction: Reducing regional offices from 10 to 5.
  • Focus on Chronic Disease: Prioritizing the elimination of environmental toxins and promoting access to safe food and clean water.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. stated that the department will achieve more at a lower cost to taxpayers while realigning with its core mission to combat chronic disease.
