Liberty Counsel, a conservative Christian law firm, plans to countersue the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) after facing a $200 billion lawsuit that aimed to bankrupt them. The SPLC joined a case against Liberty Counsel, having labeled it an “anti-LGBTQ hate group.” However, the case collapsed after the plaintiff, Janet Jenkins, admitted under oath that her claims were false. Judge William K. Sessions III ruled the lawsuit had no merit, ending nine years of legal turmoil for Liberty Counsel. Founder Mat Staver accused SPLC of trying to exploit the firm.
