The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow (CoCoRaHS) Network has launched the ‘Rain Gauge Rally,’ a nationwide competition aimed at recruiting citizen scientists to measure and report precipitation. Volunteers utilize affordable, standardized rain gauges to collect data, which supplements NOAA’s research and meteorological monitoring efforts. As of March 19, 2025, over 680 new participants have joined, with Minnesota leading by adding more than 216 volunteers. The state with the highest recruitment will be awarded the CoCoRaHS Cup, a stainless steel rain gauge, in recognition of their contribution to this citizen science initiative.
