Australia declines China’s proposal to tackle US tariffs together

Apr 10, 2025 | Government, International, Military

Australia has rejected China’s proposal to collaborate in opposing U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. “We’re not about to make common cause with China,” stated Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles. Australia will face the base 10% tariff during Trump’s 90-day pause for other nations. Despite China buying a significant 32.5% of Australian exports, compared to the U.S.’s 6%, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized the tariff as illogical and not retaliate. The Trump administration maintains a tough stance on China amidst global tariff impositions.
