March 2025 - Tornadoes in March were more than double the monthly average and three separate outbreaks produced more than 200 tornadoes

March 2025 Climate Highlights:

  • Over 200 tornadoes were recorded, more than double the average, with two EF-4 tornadoes hitting Arkansas, causing fatalities.
  • Wildfires in southern Appalachia burned over 30,000 acres, fueled by strong winds, dry conditions, and debris from Hurricane Helene.
  • March was the sixth-warmest on record for the contiguous U.S., with an average temperature of 46.9°F, 5.4°F above normal.
  • Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas experienced one of their warmest Marches on record; Alaska’s temperature was 16.7°F, 5.9°F above the average.
