Military COVID vaccine refusers struggle to reenlist despite mandates ending

Apr 26, 2025 | Government, Military, White House

Service members discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine face challenges in reenlisting, lacking promised back pay and benefits. The U.S. Department of Defense maintains the flu vaccine mandate and often denies religious exemptions. Although the COVID-19 vaccine mandate was rescinded on January 10, 2023, disciplinary records for noncompliance remain. In January, President Donald Trump sought to reverse these discharges. Despite efforts, only 43 out of over 8,000 discharged have been reinstated. Reenlistment processes require service members to state they left voluntarily, complicating reinstatement under previous ranks and conditions.

First the military kicked out patriots for not taking a rushed shot, now they’re dragging their boots when those same heroes want to come back. It’s been reported the military wanted returnees to certify in writing that they left the military voluntarily when in fact most were forced out against their will.
