Sarah Palin, the former vice-presidential nominee, is involved in a defamation retrial against The New York Times. She sued over a 2017 editorial she claimed damaged her reputation. In 2022, her claim was rejected, but an appeal granted a retrial. James Bennet, a former editor, testified tearfully, admitting, “I blew it” and apologizing for the mistake. His emotional stance seemed to influence the judge, who described his apology as “heartfelt”. Bennet also resigned from The New York Times in 2020 due to a separate incident.
