Mexican drug cartels are increasingly using drones for surveillance along the U.S. southern border, replacing traditional human scouts. These drones help track and evade Border Patrol agents and facilitate drug smuggling and illegal crossings. The advancement offers the cartels a safer and more efficient method to monitor U.S. law enforcement activities. Walter Slosar, interim Chief Agent of the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector, highlighted that agents are working with Mexican partners to improve security efforts. The focus spans across land, air, and underground to counter the cartels’ tactics effectively.

Lucem News Editor’s Opinion: Looks like the cartels are now running a high-tech surveillance program. It’s certainly a threat to national security to allow drug cartels to operate drones within 5 miles of the border, but the Mexican government seems to be working hand in hand to allow it. They have a hundred excuses to justify why they allow it. The US might have to use limited excursions to protect our country if this keeps up.
