The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has identified three Democrat-controlled states—California, New York, and Massachusetts—as responsible for the majority of $382 million in fraudulent unemployment payments since 2020. According to DOGE, questionable claims included:
- 24.5k individuals over 115 years old receiving $59 million
- 28k children aged 1 to 5 obtaining $254 million
- 9.7k future-dated births acquiring $69 million
California alone was accountable for 68% of these fraudulent claims, amounting to $305 million in total from the highlighted states.
