Lucem News Editor’s Opinion: It’s very difficult to see what business in Mexico is or is not impacted by drug cartels. Or any facet of the governent for that matter as well. For example, most avocados consumed in the US are grown in Mexico. It’s argued that drug cartels control avocado production in Mexico overall and particularly in specific regions like Michoacán. So is anyone buying avocados from Mexico working with drug cartels ? Is signing an agreement with the government of Mexico working with drug cartels ? Because the drug cartels exist and they have incredible amounts of money and influence, it’s difficult to tell what they do or do not control in Mexico.
