Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expects the U.S. to announce significant trade deals with major partners this week. Following President Trump’s April 2 “Liberation Day” tariffs, many countries have made strong offers. While some don’t favor the tariff wall, they still possess their own tariffs.
- The U.S. is negotiating with 17 out of 18 top trading partners, except China.
- Key partners include Mexico, Canada, Japan, and Germany.
- Bessent predicts 80%-90% of deals will be completed by year’s end.
These deals will address tariffs and other trade barriers.

Lucem News Editor’s Opinion: So China being a hold-out, we figured that out. The country has tens of millions out of work and protesting their government. These agreements are extensive and require a lot of work to establish. So hopefully Bessent and Trump can get the first one this week.
