America’s air traffic control system is facing a crisis due to
- a midair collision,
- several outages,
- and staffing shortages.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy revealed that the Federal Aviation Administration is using eBay and 3D printing to source replacement parts for outdated systems, as reliable suppliers are lacking. Duffy outlined a three-year plan to modernize air traffic control, targeting
- communications technology,
- surveillance systems,
- and digitization.
The plan requires “upfront appropriations” from Congress for critical updates.
